Location
Sapporo, Hokkaido
People
Manager : Hidero Fukuoka

Built on a compact 18-tsubo (60㎡) lot, this 15.6-meter-tall, three-story structure uses a lightweight rigid-frame system that allows free interior composition. The design fulfills the client’s wish to express Hokkaido’s rich food culture through space.
A glowing white noren on the ground floor invites passersby into Maruyama ROPPOU, a sushi restaurant featuring split bamboo ribbons rising like ocean waves and a terrazzo counter embedded with Hokkaido shellfish.
The second floor houses SAIKONTAN, a Japanese-Chinese restaurant where curved earthen walls and vermilion corridors evoke layers of soil and warmth.
Despite only eight seats per floor, each space offers a distinct experience—crafted with traditional materials and delicate spatial gestures, much like a contemporary tea room.
