TSUBASA

A villa built in the subarctic region of Japan. The rhombus-shaped form is carefully inserted into the landscape, creating spaces that open toward the surrounding nature through large glass screens facing east and west. The angled roof allows snow to slide off naturally while also shaping the scale of the interior spaces. Derived from the site’s views and severe climate, the form resembles a large wing — “TSUBASA” in Japanese — gently embracing the family within.
