Ebetsu TSUTAYA BOOKS

Located beside a forest in Ebetsu, Hokkaido, Ebetsu TSUTAYA BOOKS was designed as a “forest library” that encourages a slower way of living. The 140-meter-long building is divided into multiple volumes to reduce its scale and create a sense of openness and movement throughout the site. Local brick, exposed steel, concrete, and wood were used to create a calm atmosphere connected to the surrounding landscape. More than a bookstore, the project functions as a cultural hub for the community, hosting numerous events and creating a place where people naturally gather.
